For the Childhood photographs I documented the lives of my cousins for 7 years. I was captivated by their make believe, by the things that they found important and by the magic that they infused into everything that surrounded them. At the same time, it was obvious that not everything was not candy coated, as the world around them was often pushing them to come to terms with a reality that was often cruel and jarring.

By observing the gamut of emotions that young girls experience, I became fascinated by the contrast between the idyllic myth of childhood and its much more complex nuances.
